Significant air-breathing propulsion advances were made in this 100th anniversary year of manned powered flight. Highlights included that the Trent 900, lead engine for the Airbus A380, achieved certification level thrust during its first sequence of testing and GE90-115B turbofan received FAA certification. In the mean time, important engine technology programs continued to success in Europe and North America. And significant progress was made in the development of hypersonic propulsion systems, with Aerojet and Pratt && Whitney both accomplishing important ground test milestones.
