On June 17, 1994, 'United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification 'was passed for-mally in Paris. In order to commemorate this day, the United Na-tions General Assembly passes a resolution that determine the an-nual June 17 is 'World Day to Combat Desertification'. This year, it is the tenth World Day to Combat Desertification. The in-ternational theme is the 'social concern of desertification—immi-gration and poverty'.
