To study the effects of fosinopril on end-organ damage in spontaneously hypertensive rats(SHR). Methods: Fosinopril[15 mg/(kg · d)] was added in SHR chow for 16 weeks. Blood pressure variability(BPV) was recorded during 24 h in conscious state. Histopathological changes were evaluated with light microscope and computer-assisted image analysis. Results: Long-term treatment with fosinopril significantly decreased BPV (SBPV: 10. 7±1. 8 vs 16. 3±2. 1 mmHg; DBPV: 9. 0±1. 6 vs 11. 9 ± 1. 6 mmHg),and obviously diminished end-organ damage in SHR. The indices of left ventricular and glomerulosclerosis score were all positively related to SBPV and DBPV(0. 712,0. 686; 0. 651,0. 533) in untreated and fos-inopril-treated SHR(P<0. 05,P<0. 01). Conclusion: Fosinopril can obviously protect end-organs in SHR.
