In this paper we will discuss the“acid-growth”theory of auxin.The theory Says that auxin initiates an acidification mechanism,possibly a membrane-bound H^+ pump,with the result that the pH of the solution in the matrix of the cell wall decreases.Some still hypothetical enzyme or enzymes related to wall loosening are activated by the lowered pH.The wall is loosened,and cell enlargement takes place under the direct force of the cellts own turgor pressure.
