斯坦贝克以“蒙特雷三部曲”为代表的喜剧小说旨在表现人和自然的亲近、人和人之间的和谐为邻 ,因此用“人 ,诗意地栖居”来表述他的喜剧小说主题是恰当的。与这种主题相适应 ,小说采用了田园诗的结构和形式。“蒙特雷三部曲”以优美的语言、情节和结构表现了人类美好的生存方式 ,这对于处在物质或精神困厄中的人们无疑是一种精神的希冀。
Steinbeck's comedic novelettes aim at revealing men's harmonious neighboring with nature and themselves. In order to express the grand and noble theme, Steinbeck adopts pastoral structure. With lyric language, plots and structure, the 'Monteray Trilogy' expresses the beautiful life style of humankind, which is a spiritual sustenance to people either in material or spiritual dilemma.
