From March 9 to 21, 2004, Taiyuan organized its first ever tourism promotion in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. It was an important step that Taiyuan, a famous historic and cultural city, had taken to introduce itself to the outside world in a bid to broaden its tourist market and "Let the world know Taiyuan; let Taiyuan go international". It was the first time for Taiyuan to give overseas audience a comprehensive introduction to its cultural charm and tourism potential, through a colorful program, complete with a special tour promotion, an international tour festival and Taiyuan Pasta Festival. And the promotional event gained widespread attention among an across-section of people from Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
