杜牧在扬州时写了他一生中最重要的一些文章,总结历史兴亡的经验教训,思考唐朝的统治命运,谈兵论政,为统治者出谋划策,这才是杜牧三年扬州生活的主旋律。那些看似轻浮之作,至多不过是他壮志难酬寄情歌舞借酒浇愁的产物。

DU Mu, in his life, wrote some most important articles with the following as their themes: summarizing the experience and lessons from the rise and fall of the national history, considering the fate of Tang Dynasty, talking about military and politics and offering advice for the ruling class. All these seemingly frivolous works were the products of his never-realized aspirations.
