Determination of micro amount of water in organic solvents by spectrophotmetry

摘要 The reaction between 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane(TCNQ)and water in organic solvents was studied.TCNQ and water complex has strong molar absorptivity at 744nm and 840nm.The linear range is 0~7.0%(V/V)or 0~8.0%(V/V)for the determination of water in methanol,ethanol,n-propyl alcohol,2-propanol.The results for ethanol were in agreement with standard results. The recoveries of water in n-propyl alcohol and 2-propanol were 96.6%~101% and 98%~102%,respectively.This is a simple,sensitive and reproducible method for determining water in organic solvents.
