Register and Translation

语域是语言在实际使用过程中人们为达到某一特定交际目的而产生的一种语言功能变体,它是三种参数——话语范围、话语方式和话语体式——的综合体现。在翻译过程中,对语域三种参数的认识和把握,是译者确定翻译决策、进行翻译活动的重要因素。

Registers is a language functional variety appropriate for actual use in particular speech situation in order to get a specific purpose. It is a comprehensive combination of the three parameters: field of discourse, mode of discourse and tenor of discourse. If only the three parameters are supplementary to each other, a consistent and harmonious relationship can be kept among speech situation, communicative purpose and people concerned while using a particular language. In the process of translation, the three parameters are also important factors for a translator to determine his translation method and to do his translation. Thus, to transfer all the information, the translator must take all the three factors into consideration.
