The Effects of Non- verbal Communication in Intercultural Communication

具有不同文化背景的人从事交际的过程就是跨文化交际。本文着重探讨了跨文化交际中的非语言交际。非语言交际与语言交际不同,它的交际行为和交际手段主要有:体态语、副语言、客体语和环境语。前两类可以称为“非语言行为”,后两类可称为“非语言手段”。我们可以通过对非语言行为之间的文化差异的了解,从而提高跨文化交际的能力。

The process of communication between people from different cultural backgrounds is intercultural communication.This article lays emphasis on non- verbal communication in intercultural communication. Non- verbal communication is different from verbal communication in that it has the following communication actions and means:(1) body language, (2) paralanguage, (3) object language, (4) environmental language. The former two are called“ non- verbal actions” while the latter two are called“ non- verbal means” . We can improve our abilities of intercultural communication by getting to know more about cultural differences between non- verbal actions and means.
