Zhang Ailing is one of the fewest authors of monologue style during the 1940s.Her sentiment of the doomsday mingles with the awareness of the individual crisis during the wartime, as well as her strong presentiment of the extinction of human civilization; it all adds some kind of desolation to her monologue. Her desolation, which is the general comprehension of her time ,in the meanwhile is the deepest touch to the hard times of a lonely lady.
