This paper is written on the basis of relevent documents and the defect diagnosis results of more than ten bridges made by the Traffic Scientific Research Institute of Gansu Province.The author summarizes the common defects of extant reinforced concrete bridges,analyzes the causes of them and puts forward some proposals for prevention,which include the aspects such as to ascertain the technical situation of extant reinforced concrete bridges,to take proper measures to strengthen and improve them so as to ensure their safety.
