A 1:15 cold-flow scale model of a 500t/day oil-fired glass tank furnace was constructed tested with an objective to investigate the effects of three different burner positions on the combustion aerodynamics and flame geometry in the furnace. The flow patterns were visualized by the smoke method. The physical modelling techniques used in the experiment were given in details.
