Nationalism, a special product in the process of modernization, plays an irreplaceable role in the forming of a nation and the founding of a nation-states . In another word, without nationalism there would be no nation or nation-states , let alone the modernization. Viewing the history, though nationalism has showed the enormous advancement for propelling the society forward, it is becoming increasingly irrational, which has immense destructive power towards the human being and the modernization.By inquiring the origins and evolutions of nationality in history, the author describes the historical track of modern American nationalism, and rationally analyzes modern American national hegemony. This article gives us a footnote for a better understanding of the rising of America and the lasting vigor of American nationality.
