The article discusses research methods and content of studies on rural issues. As to the methods, the author points out that the proper methods may not bring about good conclusions lies in the angles of study. In general, the basic method of political economic analysis is necessary, but it is supposed to apply to appropriate objects. Concerning the content, the author claims that the reforms in China's countryside are by nature the changes of rights. It is criticalto the success of Chinese rural reforms to clarify the property right of land, social rights equally enjoyed by urban and rural residents, and democratic rights of rural residents as well.
