The expressive characteristics of a Chinese format “A is A”

“A是A”格式是汉语中一种很有特色的体现语言经济性的格式 ,能产生非常特殊的表达作用。此格式有表区别义、表“区别义 +转折义”、表列举、表强调、表让步等五种不同的类型 ,而且各类之间是有关系的。分析各种类型的语义语用功能 ,有助于对外汉语教学和计算机处理自然语言。

A is A” is a characteristic Chinese format which can produce very special function of our expressions. Through reviewing a corpus of about one million words, I have found five different types. A detailed description of all these types will be helpful to Chinese teaching as a foreign language and computer processing natural language.
