摘要
Syllables and Rhyme of China, a dictionary of rhyming words by Zhou Deqing in Yuan Dynasty, has a great effect on the creation of traditional opera later and is of great value in the research on Chinese rhyme. The reason why Zhou compiled the book is very important for the research of Chinese phonetic system. Some think that Zhou’s intention is to boycott the Phags-pa script and protect the characteristic of Chinese character .In this article the writer will discuss the viewpoint in three aspects and meanwhile analyze the main reason for Zhou’s compiling of the book.
