Jack London is an important writer of the critical realism in the history of American Literature. Martin Eden is his masterpiece. Martin Eden,the hero of the novel, wished to enter the upper class with his own efforts. But after he came into it, he became more painful and had a void in his heart. He was plunged into such a state of uncontrollable grief that he committed suicide. This is a genuine manifestation of Jack London's thoughts. He ended his life in the same way. Martin's tragedy is Jack London's tragedy. This novel reveals the failure of American dreams in the 20th century.
