《三吴游览志》是余怀游踪的忠实记录。在此游记中,余怀借山水之漫游,写逸士之胸襟;托文士之雅集,吐亡国之忧愤;藉歌女之遭际,叹前途之多歧;借友人之凋零,申己志之坚贞。余怀的《三吴游览志》寓意深刻,寄托遥远,已非单纯游览层面的意义,而是他的遗民情结的载体和生动写照。

In The Travels in Kingdom of Wu, a faithful record of his travel, Yu Huai expressed his lofty ideals by writing his roaming among mountains and rivers and revealed his worry and indignance because of the national subjugation with the refined essays of men of letters. By writing a singer's bitter experience he also exclaimed how uncertainty of future and avowed his firm determination and strong faith in sharp contrast to his fewer and fewer friends sticking to their belief. The Travels in Kingdom of Wu by Yu Huai, which is profound in meaning and pregnant with indication, is by no means simply an expression of the surface meaning of travel but a carrier and vivid description of his complex as an adherent of a former dynasty.
