Socioljnguistics is one of the newer interdisciplinary fields that studies not only language struc-ture,but also conversation, discourse, cognitive structure and communicative strategies from a social per-spective, thus forming an academie growth in the area of cross - cultural and interdisciplinary research. This paper explores the development tendency and tasks Chinese sociolinguists face to emphasize the application and exploration of the latest research findings in the area, focusing on defining the field, discussing the major achievements, the scope of inquiry, the approaches and methodology.
