The application of IEEE 802.20 will probably activate greater demands for data services, although the standard itself is still under discussion. The paper introduces the progress of IEEE 802.20, its development trend and main technological characteristics. It also discusses a possible WMAN (Wireless Metropolitan Area Network) architecture based on IEEE 802.20, and finally sets up a WMAN model that makes use of IEEE 802.20 alone.
