太极作为中国古代哲学宇宙生成论和本体论的终极本原及其无限性的哲学范畴 ,用以说明太极—阴阳—五行—万物的宇宙演化模式。中医学受其影响 ,推原人体生命发生发育之本 ,而提出命门为人体太极之说 ;而且太极无形生有形的思想 ,也影响于命门学说 ,使命门的形质空化 。

Taiji is an ancient Chinese philosophical category of the ultimate principle and infinity of cosmic generation and noumenon. It is used to explain the cosmic evolution model(taiji→yinyang→five elements→myriad things). Because of its influence on traditional Chinese medicine, the principle of occurrance and development of human life has been deduced and the contention that life gate is the taiji of human body has been put forward. The concept that the invisible of taiji generates the visible also effects on the life-gate theory, making life gate hollow.That is the reason of another saying that life gate is invisible.
