A simple and inexpensive device is described which allows the direct measurement of the ultrasonic transit time with an accuracy better than Ins. A zero-cross point of the selected cycle is chosen as the triggering one to measure the transit time. thus minimizing problems with its dependence on the amplitude variation of echo signals. So the apparatus is expected to be applied to stress measuremerits based on the stress—ultrasonic velocity relations.
