Objective: To observe changes in the distribution of the CGRP-immunnoreactive nerve fibers in trigeminalsubnucleus caudalis (Vc) during experimental tooth movement. Methods: Model of experimental tooth movement wasestablished by insertion of a separating elastic between the upper first and second molars to mimic clinical orthodontictooth movement. The immunohistochemical stain for CGRP in the Vc was carried out at diffent time. Results: The numberof CGRP-containing nerve fibers decreased significantly in experimental side of Vc at 6, 24 hours after tooth movement. There was no significant difference between the experimental and control sides at 3 day after tooth movement. The densityof CGRP immunoreactivity in experimental side was more than control side at 1 week after tooth movement and returnedto the control level at 2 week. Conclusion: Experimental tooth movement induces CGRP releasing in Vc.
