Relying on the turbulent social background and diverse academic trends, the critical theory exposes the false face of Western popular culture mainly from three dimensions: economic, aesthetic, and ideological. An in-depth study of the kernel of the Frankfurt School’s critical theory of popular culture and its limitations can provide a possible critical model for the study of popular culture theory in China, add a special angle of reflection on the complex social and cultural phenomena of contemporary China, and ultimately serve as a certain revelation and guidance for the advancement of the cultural construction of China’s new era.
