In almost any professional field, choosing a good advisor is the key to success. So how do people choose their advisors in real life? In present study, we used two experiments to investigate whether people value more warmth or competence when choosing advisors based on the Big Two Model. Experiment 1 presented information about the attributes of the advice-givers through textual descriptions, while Experiment 2 used a more objective scale. The two experiments were relatively consistent in showing that people valued warmth more than competence when choosing advisors. These findings reveal the primacy of warmth in advisor selection and have implications into practice.
