The Usual Suspects was released in 1995 and won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1996. The film, which follows the story of the suspect Kint and the policeman David, engages the audience with a clever narrative and a surprising ending. Based on Robert McKee’s film narrative theory, this paper takes The Usual Suspects as the analysis object to understand how story theory expresses the emotions and ideas of directors and scriptwriters in the film narrative structure.
