The adaptation of The French Lieutenant’s Woman basically follows the female issue setting of the original novel. The nested structure of “heterogeneity and homogeneity” highlights the female growth paths of Sarah and Anna, and makes them mirror contrast and refer to each other. As a representative of the new women, Sarah’s individual growth reflects more possibilities for social change in Britain. She uses her body as a weapon to arrogate gender politics, so as to break down the barriers of discourse regulation and return to the truth and autonomy of the female body. However, through the in-depth interpretation of the film text, we can also see that it is still not completely out of the gender narrative rut. In terms of female body, social change and story ending, the film still has not broken free from the shackles of male discourse domination.
