This paper summarizes the historical origin of core socialist values from four perspectives, in-cluding Marxist theory, Chinese excellent traditional culture, the practice of socialist moderniza-tion construction and historical development of values. Marxism theory provides theoretical support and methodology for core socialist values as the guiding ideology, promoting the construction of core socialist values as the mainstream values. Chinese excellent traditional culture is cultural tradition of core socialist values, providing culture nourished for core socialist values. Socialist modernization construction lays a practical foundation for core socialist values and is the driving force for consistent development of core socialist values. Meanwhile, core socialist values take historical development of values as the historical basis, drawing the experience and lessons and promoting the development of theory. After a correct understanding of historical origin of core socialist values, the paper further illustrates the point include against the erroneous tendencies and the further development of core socialist values.
