Contemporary people devote more and more time to swiping short videos and participating in beauty and fitness activities. Words describing physical appearance such as “white young and thin,” “A4 waist,” and “butterfly arms” become Internet buzzwords. The culture of pursuing external beauty has increased researchers’ attention to topics such as ideal beauty, self-objectification, and body image satisfaction. Similarly, in cultures that emphasize physical appearance, the importance individuals place on their own physical appearance increases, which in turn leads to more dissatisfaction with their own physical appearance, making it necessary to focus on the prevalence, diagnostic criteria, and treatment of body dysmorphic disorder in this context.
