This study examines the characteristics and impact of gossip as a widespread social phenomenon across different age groups. Gossip, defined as informal conversations or rumors about absent third parties, plays a complex role in psychology and sociology. It not only conveys information but also involves social dynamics such as exclusion, alliance formation, social status, and moral judgment. The universality of gossip is evident across age, gender, and socio-economic statuses. Its manifestations and functions vary across social environments and age brackets. For example, in children and adolescents, gossip may relate to social status and identity exploration, while in adults, it is associated with social network maintenance, information exchange, and adherence to moral norms. This research aims to comprehensively understand the role of gossip across different life stages, providing insights into its diverse functions and influences.
