Carotenoids are a kind of natural functional pigments. The anabolic regulation of carotenoids in plants is a complex process regulated by many levels and factors. This article describes that the transcriptional level, environmental factors, plastid development, and hormones regulate the ac-cumulation of carotenoids in plants.
