试论词汇衔接带来的演讲词连贯效果——以奥巴马2009年就职演讲词为例

On the Cohesive Effect of Lexical Cohesion in Speech——With Obama’s Inaugural Address in 2009 as the Case

衔接是语篇中话语组织的纽带,衔接的手段多种多样。在《英语的衔接》一书中,Halliday和Hasan列出了五种衔接手段,即指示、替代、省略、连接和词汇衔接。前四种是语法手段,最后一种是词汇手段。本文以胡壮麟在其专著《语篇的衔接与连贯》中提出的关于词汇衔接方式的理论框架,结合奥巴马在2009年的就职演讲词,详细探讨各种词汇衔接手段在语篇连贯衔接构建中的运用,以及由词汇衔接带来的强大视听效果。

Cohesion is the connecting belt between the organizations of discourse, which is usually arrived by various methods. In Cohesion in English, Halliday and Hasan listed five methods of cohesion: reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction and lexical cohesion, with the first four grammatical and the last one lexical. By using the ways of lexical cohesion advocated by Hu Zhuanglin in his book—The Cohesion and Coherence in Discourse as the theoretical frame and Obama’s inaugural address in 2009 as the case, this thesis explores the uses of the ways of lexical cohesion in the construction of a coherent and cohesive dis- course in details, and at the same time demonstrates the great audio and visual effect brought by it.
