Lin Shaohua is a famous Japanese literary translator, especially for the translation of Murakami Haruki’s literary works. Lin Shaohua’s translation, which integrates ancient and modern Chinese, is fresh and refined, and presents a unique literary charm. Based on Lin Shaohua’s newly trans-lated novel—A Lost Paradise, this paper analyzes Lin Shaohua’s translation strategies from the aspects of his life experience, ideology, translation habits, etc., and explores how the translators exert their subjectivity in translation. It is concluded that Lin Shaohua’s translation of A Lost Paradise includes many translation features, such as “simplified, light and influent language”, “combination of ancient and modern Chinese”, “multiple use of four-character phrases”, “omission of personal subject in dialogues”, etc. In addition, this paper also analyzes mistranslations, unnatural translations and the translator’s subjective factors behind them.
