纽马克翻译理论指导下公示语英译研究——以武汉市为例

摘要 本文阐述了纽马克翻译理论,并以纽马克交际翻译理论为指导,对武汉市公共场所公示语翻译进行了探讨。本文主张,公示语属于信息型或号召型文本,目的侧重于信息的传达或行动的感召,在其英译过程中应将目的语读者作为关注对象。而纽马克翻译理论中交际翻译以目的语为出发点,根据目的语的语言风格、文化和语用方式传递信息,相较于其他翻译方法,最能在目的语中再现原文读者所感受到的交际效果。因此本文采用交际翻译理论作为理论指导,结合实际语料库探究了纽马克翻译理论体系在实践领域的指导意义,并从翻译和有关部门管理两方面提出建议,以最大化实现公示语的应用功能,助力武汉国际化都市建立。 This paper expounds Newmark’s text type classification and translation theory, and discusses the translation of public signs in Wuhan based on Newmark’s communicative translation theory. This paper argues that public signs are informative or vocative texts, and their purpose is to focus on the transmission of information or the call for action. The target-language readers should be the focus center in the C-E translation process. In Newmark’s translation theory, communicative translation takes the target language as the starting point and transmits information according to the style, culture, and pragmatics of the target language. Compared with other translation methods, communicative translation can best reproduce the communicative effect experienced by the orig-inal reader in the target language. Therefore, the communicative translation theory is used as the theoretical guidance in this paper. In combination with actual corpus, the practical significance of Newmark’s translation theory system is explored. Observations from translation and management aspects are given, maximizing the application function of public signs, and boosting the establish-ment of Wuhan’s international image.
