《逍遥游》关键词英译对比——以冯友兰和华兹生英译本为例

The Comparison of Key Words of Two English Versions of Xiaoyaoyou—A Case Study of English Versions of Feng Youlan and Burton Watson

冯友兰英译的《庄子内篇》是我国译者第一部庄子的选译本,华兹生的《全译》目前已成为汉学界引用最为频繁的一个译本。但两者所译的目的和方法不甚相同,这造成了《庄子》中特有哲学内涵传达的不同。本文通过对比两个译本在关键词如冥、天池、六气、逍遥的译词选择,不仅可以看出译者对关键词的理解与解释,同时也可以看到他们对庄子哲学思想的把握程度。

Chuang-Tzu: A New Selected Translation with an Exposition of the Philosophy of Kuo Hsiang by Feng Youlan is the first selected translation of Zhuangzi by Chinese translators, and The Complete Works of Chuang Tzu by Burton Watson has become the most frequently cited translation in Sinology. However, the purpose and method adopted by two translators are different, which leads to the difference of the philosophical connotation in Zhuangzi. In this paper, by comparing translations of keys words, such as Ming, Tianchi, Six Qi, and Xiaoyao, we can not only see how they understand and explain the key words, but also see to what extent they grasp Zhuangzi’s philosophy.
