Taking English education as an example, under Spolsky’s framework of language management, this essay explored how parents’ educational background and family income influence intergenerational family language policies from the three aspects of language practice, language ideology and language management. Participants who were all undergraduate students, were surveyed by questionnaires to collect the information about their parents’ educational background, family income, their parents’ practice of family language policy, and also their own planning about language policy in future family. After data analysis, we found out that parents’ educational background and family income not only affect their own planning of family language policy to some degree, but a proportional relationship was also found between family income and children’s willingness to inherit their parents’ language ideology. The influence of family socioeconomic status on family language policy can be intergenerational.
