The Influence of Physical Geographical Environment on Language and Culture—Taking Chinese and English as Examples

本文以汉语和英语为例,通过中、英两国的自然地理环境特点及与之相关的语言现象,探究自然地理环境对语言文化的影响。明确每一种语言文化都不是凭空而生的,语言文化的形成和发展受自然环境影响而与自然环境呈现一定的因果关系。我们可以根据语言发源地的自然地理环境从而找出语言文化差异背后的原因和语言文化形成的依据,以便更好地了解和学习语言文化,促进语言文化的研究和发展。

With some examples from Chinese and English, this paper explores the influence of physical geo-graphical environment on language and culture through the characteristics of physical geographical environment in China and Britain and the related linguistic phenomena. It is clear that every language and culture is not born out of thin air. The formation and development of language and culture are influenced by the natural environment and have a certain causal relationship with the natural environment. We can find out the reasons behind the differences of language and culture and the basis of the formation of language and culture according to the natural geographical environment of the birthplace of language, so as to better understand, learn and promote the research and development of language and culture.
