This paper adopts Fairclough’s Three-Dimensional Analysis Framework to analyze the image of China created by BBC Documentary “Designed in China” in terms of text, discourse practice and social practice. The result shows that although BBC aims at highlighting a variety of social prob-lems from a negative perspective when drawing the image of China, it also acknowledges the social changes brought about by the development of China’s science and technology. The reason why BBC portrays China’s image in such a way may be related to the development of China’s comprehensive national strength and the western reflection on the world. However, it should also be noted that it is far from easy for the western society to remove the “western centered” values;thus it will take time to completely change its stereotyped impression of China.
