互动式元话语视角下中美主流媒体新闻报道模糊限制语对比分析——以2022北京冬奥会中美主流新闻报道为例

Analysis of Hedges in News Report from Chinese and American Mainstream Media from the Perspective of Interactional Meta-Discourse—Taking the Mainstream News Coverage of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in China and the US as an Example

在当前中美关系处于微妙的大背景下,2022年2月4日,中国成功举办第24届冬季奥林匹克运动会,北京冬奥会的新闻报道也频频出现在中美两国主流媒体之上。本文从语言学互动式元话语视角下的模糊限制语的角度,采用定量和定性相结合的研究方法,对两国主流媒体的英文报道做了模糊限制语的英文标记,然后进行百分比统计分析。虽然两国的主要新闻媒体均使用“模糊限制语”来建立与读者的联系,从而传达官方声音,但在“模糊限制语”的运用方面却有着明显区别,美国较多利用模糊限制语营造紧张气氛操纵舆论导向,并有意模糊对北京冬奥会的实际报道内容。本研究试图深化人们对新闻模糊限制语言功能的认识,并在国际话语博弈合理有效运用模糊限制语言中提出重要参考。

Against the backdrop of delicate China-US relations, China successfully hosted the 24th Winter Olympic Games on February 4, 2022, and news coverage of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games frequently appeared on mainstream media in both China and the US. From the perspective of hedges from the perspective of interactive meta-discourse in linguistics, this paper uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods to mark the English reports of hedges in the mainstream media of the two countries, and then makes a statistical analysis of the percentage of hedges. Although the main news media in both countries use “hedges” to establish contact with readers, so as to convey the official voice, the use of “hedges” has obvious differences. The United States often used hedges to create tension and manipulate the direction of public opinion, and deliberately blurred the actual coverage of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. This study tries to deepen people’s understanding of the function of news hedges and provides important reference for rational and effective use of hedges in international discourse games.
