“科学”在《国务院政府工作报告》中的译法探究——以2014~2020年的《国务院政府工作报告》为例

Research on Translation of the Word “Science” in the Government Work Report of the State Council—Examples from the Government Work Report of the State Council 2014~2012

作为世界了解中国的窗口,《国务院政府工作报告》(以下简称《报告》)承载着特殊的时代意义和政治使命,是讲好中国故事的重要典范。“科学”一词频繁使用于中国各类官方文件中,在《报告》中也多次出现,然而其英译法却不尽相同。“科学”原本不属于中国传统文化,为外来词,但在现代汉语语境中广泛使用,并赋予其新的内涵和意义。本文追溯了“科学”一词的来源、意义及语义发展,参考不同词典中对“科学”的定义和解释,通过统计不同的词语搭配,对比了“科学”一词的不同译法及其原因,并以此为例,揭示社会文化发展之于翻译和传播的重要意义。

As a window for the world to understand China, Government Work Report of the State Council (hereinafter referred to as the Report) carries a special meaning of the times and is an important model for telling Chinese stories. The word “science” is frequently used in various official documents, and it has also appeared many times in the Report, but its English translation versions are not the same. “Science” does not belong to Chinese culture, while it is widely used in the context of modern Chinese and is given new connotations and meanings. This article traces the origin, meaning and semantic development of the word “science”, and by referring to the definitions and explanations of “science” in different dictionaries and the statistical data of different collocations containing “science” in the Report from 2014 to 2020, it compares different translation versions of “science” and explores its reasons. In this regard, this article narrates the importance of social and cultural development in translation and communication.
