Translation has been widely used by people. It has greatly increased the cultural exchange between countries all over the world. There is no dispute that it is a cross language and cross-cultural communication activity. However, scholars have disputes about whether translation is faithful to the original text or rewritten the original text. According to the traditional view, the standard of a translation is whether it is faithful to the original text. This idea tends to the original, so the translator also carefully pursues faithfulness and equivalence. However, with the deepening of translation research, many scholars believe that translation is rewriting. Only rewriting can make the translation conform to a certain social purpose. In view of this set of contradictory views, this paper discusses and puts forward that translation is the combination of faithfulness and rewriting. Unifying the two can make the translation more brilliant.
