Translation of Cultural Relics’ Names in Spanish from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence—Taking the Documentary Every Treasure Tells a Story as an Example

奈达的功能对等理论强调以读者为中心,同时尽可能地传达文化内涵,对文物名称的翻译具有指导作用。本文借助功能对等理论提出文物名称翻译的两个特点及三个原则,并对纪录片《如果国宝会说话》中文物名称的西班牙语翻译实例进行具体研究,探讨文物名称西班牙语翻译的难点及其策略,以便提高译文接受度、激发外国友人兴趣,为中国文化“走出去”服务。

Nida’s theory of functional equivalence emphasizes a reader-centered approach while striving to convey cultural connotations as fully as possible, guiding the translation of names of cultural relics. This paper applies the functional equivalence theory to propose two characteristics and three principles for the translation of names of cultural relics. It conducts a specific study on the Spanish translation of the names of cultural relics in the documentary Every Treasure Tells a Story discussing the challenges and strategies of translating these names into Spanish. This is done in order to enhance the acceptability of the translations and stimulate the interest of international friends, serving the promotion of Chinese culture abroad.
