Gut microbiota is closely related to human digestion and nutrient absorption. Besides, Gut microbiota also plays an important role in neurological development. In patients with depression, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other diseases, the composition and content of intestinal flora are significantly changed. The two-way communication pathway between the gut microbiota and the brain, known as the “gut-brain axis”, can influence neurotransmission and behaviors associated with neuropsychiatric disorders. This article reviews the research progress on the role of gut microbiota in neurological and psychological diseases, in order to provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of related diseases.
