Register theory is one of the most important theories of systemic functional grammar,which has been widely used in translation,linguistics and discourse analysis.This paper analyzes the field,tenor and mode of the register theory in the short story at leisure by the famous German writer and Nobel Prize winner Heinrich Böll,so that readers can better understand the language features of the short story and the thoughts and connotations expressed by the author.
