Stylistic Analysis on Maugham’s Mr. Know-All

Mr. Know-all is a short story written by William Somerset Maugham. With vivid description of characters, it shapes different personalities and exposes the problems of racial discrimination and identity in the post-colonial era. From the perspective of literary stylistics, this paper attempts to analyze the stylistic features from the aspects of vocabulary, grammar, figure of speech and discourse. This paper aims to explore how Maugham created several characters with distinct personalities in a limited space, and how Maugham exposed the social and political problems of that time.
