Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis” uses the writing skills of “stream of consciousness” to describe the changes in the inner spiritual world of the protagonist Gregor after the “wormization” with delicate brushstrokes, and truly shows the alienation of human nature in the external world. The “stream of consciousness” treatment of the supernatural phenomenon of “transformation” makes this work appear absurd, but behind the absurdity lies Kafka’s critique of the real world. An in-depth analysis of the “stream of consciousness” technique in “The Metamorphosis” reveals the irony and symbolic connotation behind it, which has far-reaching significance for the in-depth understanding of the alienation theme in “The Metamorphosis”.
