At the end of April, female cones began to initialize from the vegetative buds. Pollination occurred in mid-May and seeds matured at the beginning of July. The ontogenetic pattern of female reproductive organs of E. sin ca is basically similar to that of E. distachya L. The foliar nature of the outer envelope of the ovule in Ephedra is corroborated. Reduction of ovule number as a tendency of speciation in the genus is substantiated by the occurrence of tri-ovulate cones coupled with comprehensive characters of the genus. The metamorphic patterns as well as the leaf nature of the outer envelope indicate that female cones of Ephedra are compound while the female reproductive units of the ovulate cone have been reduced from secondary reproductive shoots similar to those of cordaites by phylogenetic transformation, fusion and reduction. Each fertile bract together with its axillary female reproductive unit composed the Bract Scale and Seed Scale Complex of Ephedra.展开更多

Such individual differences in ways of coping with stress are relevant both in biomedicine, since different personalities may experience a different stress and disease vulnerability, and in behavioural ecology, since their adaptive value and evolutionary maintenance are the subject of debate. However, the precise way in which individual stress differences and personalities are linked is unclear. Here we provide an updated overview of this covariation across different species and taxa, consider its functional significance and present working hypotheses for how behavioural and physiological responses to stress might be causally linked, affecting life-history traits such as dispersal and life-span [Current Zoology 56 (6): 728-740, 2010].展开更多

Harriet Wilson's Our Nig (1859) reflects an "alternative social character", for the female protagonist suffers racism in the free North, because she is a mulatto child. Through depicting the life of free blacks, who supposedly lives a better life than Southern slaves, Wilson exposes how she has actually lived and sensed life in antebellum America. According to Raymond Williams (2011), there are two kinds of literary writings. The first represents the general tendency of the age, and he calls it "dominant social character"; representing the majority content of both the public writing and speaking. But, another different literary writing lives in its shadow; one that usually leads the conflicts of the time. It is the "alternative social character"; the literature of the victims of repression and marginalization, produced by the lower class, women, and blacks. They reflected how they were dehumanized, and exposed their suffering and abasement. They also aimed to prove individualism. The novel reveals how racism in the North could be worse than the slavery of the South. This paper shows Wilson deviation from the "her brethren" in writing her novel. It unveils significant truths concerning black women's status in antebellum America. It discusses how the author attempts to correct certain misconceptions through her female character展开更多

In Spain, these systems are relatively new because, until recently, ownership of patients' medical records belonged to the health institution. The proposed system gives patients all the information about their medical records, online. The difference from other initiatives is that the hospital provides patients with information and the latter are responsible for its future use. Importantly, this application allows physicians to carry out a personalized and individualized monitoring and treatment of each patient. The tests were conducted with real patients, all with a chronic disease (to show each patient the personalized data). They all expressed their appreciation of this application's usefulness, and obtained satisfaction level was very high. Thanks to having medical information stored on the proposed system, it can be provided to other specialists to improve the knowledgement about the patient.展开更多

Negative emotion of university students causes school dropout, which is becoming a serious problem in Japan. It is indispensable for school staffs and counselors to know when and where students have negative emotion in the campus. Since BVP signals along with emotion changes vary with personality types, we build a model dependent on personality type, to estimate student emotion from characteristics of blood volume signals. Experimental results show that the model for each personality type improves the accuracy of emotion estimation for new students. Positive or negative emotion estimated from BVP signals contributes to enhancement of campus environment by school counselors.展开更多

This essay takes a closer look at one of the most remarkable exemptions of the prevailing memory culture at Holocaust memorials: the sites and events highlighting Anne Frank and her short life in troubled times. Over the past years millions of travelers from all over the world have shown a genuine interest in learning about the life world of their young heroine thus creating what has been termed Anne Frank Tourism. In 2014, 1.2 million people visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam: the museum and educational center, the place in hiding where she wrote her now famous and widely read diary. Several other sites connected to the life path of Anne Frank, from her birth place in Frankfurt to the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp where her life prematurely ended, have also become part of the mostly young tourists' search for Anne Frank's life and legacy. With the rising popularity of Anne Frank related sites the management of some of the locales has become more problematic which is discussed in the context of a several museums, centers and historic sites. On a more general note, it is argued here that in recent years the more group oriented commemoration practices at Holocaust sites have given way to a trend of putting individual faces to the victims of the Holocaust. It was, in particular, novels, films and TV productions about the Holocaust that emphasized individual life paths and events and enticed visitation to more personalized sites. Steven Spielberg's popular movie Schindler's List, for example, contributed to "Schindler tourism", a form of special interest tourism in Krakow. More and more Holocaust memorial sites have also started to honor outstanding individuals or small groups in resistance and opposition to Nazi Germany. Examples of this are the fighters of the 1943 uprising at the Sobibor death camp and the courageous student members of the "White Rose" in Munich who stood up to the powers of the time and were executed. In the concluding part the question will be raised of what is the proper approach in the representation of the fate of the victims of Nazi Germany: A personalized approach or a greater focus on an explanation of the ideology and policies behind the rule of terror which may contribute to the visitors' better understanding of a complex history?展开更多

Mastectomy, which has a serious influence on the female sex characteristics, can bring about especially serious psychological problems. These problems affect not only the patients’ quality of life but also the beginning, development, and end of the disease. This paper reviewed the relationships between the patients’ personal factors, the disease itself, treatment factors, and other socio-psychological factors and psychological conditions so as to provide new ideas for the psychological intervention on breast cancer patients, comprehensive clinical diagnosis and treatment, and prevention and cure.展开更多

Personality is certain physiological basis, formed and developed in social practice and it is the result of genetic and environmental factors, the society may influence the development of a number of factors of personality. The so-called healthy personality refers to personality harmonious, comprehensive and healthy development. Because of contemporary college students study pressure, economic pressure, the employment pressure, emotional stress and other factors, it results in morbid psychology; personality psychology highlights the unhealthy phenomenon. In recent years, especially college students' personality distortions continue to occur, it is caused widespread concern of the whole society, to strengthen and shape the health of college students has become an important personality of an urgent work.展开更多
