In the course of its development and expansion, initial modernity gradually demarcated into scientific modernity and humanistic modernity, with the former triumphing over the latter. As a product of modernity, sociology has been subject to the antagonistic dualism since its birth, resulting in its tattered condition with multiple theories and paradigms in constant dispute, even to the extent of endangering itself. In postindustrial society that is characterized of interpersonal conflicts as a major form of social conflicts, sociology should discard the “either-or” thinking mode of antagonistic dualism and strive to embrace both dimensions of science and humanity. It should pursue unified integration with pluralities to strengthen its explanatory power for reality, and in the course, successfully present itself as an independent, coherently integrated, scientific discipline.展开更多
