S. Eliot’s The Waste Land, using the text of The Waste Land and applying Lakoff and Turner’s theory of poetic metaphor as the theoretical framework. The analysis will interpret the poem within the context of Eliot’s era. By examining the metaphors in the poem and their symbolic meanings, this paper will reveal how The Waste Land reflects the social upheaval and cultural crisis of the early 20th century. As a leader of the modernist movement, Eliot’s work will also be studied for its place within modernist literature and its influence on subsequent literary works. This research not only contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexity of Waste Land, but also offers new perspectives for studying metaphors in modernist poetry.展开更多
